Better by design Proven by impact

I turn complicated problems into clear results, and bring teams along to make it happen.

Samantha Kalita
About

Hi, I'm Samantha.

I get the hard things done.

Good strategy fails in the gaps nobody's watching. So I watch the gaps. I see what's coming, validate with data, and build toward it, taking the risk out of getting from strategy to results.

Strategy doesn't ship on its own. People do. I'm a multiplier: I bring teams together, add structure and creative momentum, and care as much about the people as the work.

I'm looking to elevate experiences, use AI as a collaborative tool, and join a culture that is ambitious and down to earth.

Let's make something great together.

Ways of working ICF

Cutting delivery time in half and taking on more ambitious work

AI takes on more of the production in my design and analysis work, which gives me the space to explore, think strategically, and get ahead of problems before they grow. I take on bigger problems, and the quality stays high.

The challenge

We are a small team building a software product and trying to grow. That takes both sharp execution and real strategic thinking, and I bring both. AI takes on more of the production, so the strategy gets the focus it deserves.

The approach

Every project runs the same loop. I start with reference materials, ask questions and dig into the analysis, build a framework and refine it, then design around it, whether that is a wireframe or a finished deliverable. I check the work for gaps, share it with the team, and iterate. I collaborate with AI at every step, and the calls that matter stay with me.

In practice

Customer revenue analysis. I turned raw contract data into an executive analysis that showed where we were leaving money on the table and where we could grow revenue. AI helped me synthesize a large amount of detail, and I shared it with the team within two days.

Fast design turnaround. I received product requirements in the morning and brought a wireframe back to stakeholders that same afternoon, with developer handoff a few working days later.

Team culture ICF

Improving release cadence with confidence and celebrations

A small idea to celebrate our releases grew into a lasting team ritual: a song for every release, a motto to rally around, and an AI-built dance game that got the whole remote team dancing together. I earned a Copper award for team culture and the innovative use of AI.

The challenge

We were shipping less often than we wanted, sometimes going weeks without a release, and the work that did ship never felt recognized. Every release made a real change with real impact, and we kept rushing past the chance to celebrate it together as a remote team.

The approach

To encourage the team to release regularly with enthusiasm and confidence, introduced a team motto with crest, "start small, make it real, then make it better," as well as a release-song ritual: every release got a song, always a surprise, always tied to the work. We also brought QA onto the team. The ritual grew into spinning disco balls and, to celebrate, created Dance Roulette: a wheel of 24 dance moves timed to Pharrell's "Happy" so everyone could dance together. I built it overnight with AI, moving between Claude Cowork and Copilot.

Measurable outcomes ICF

Raising usability score by 37% on key product

I introduced usability benchmarking from scratch and drove consistent, documented gains over 13 months, contributing to revenue that beat its goal by nearly 50%.

The challenge

EnergyInsite, our energy planning product, was built without UX input, so there was no baseline and no way to measure progress. Nobody really knew whether it was working for the people using it.

The approach

I established a System Usability Score (SUS) benchmark from day one, then ran structured check-ins at six-month intervals. I paired it with regular software release documentation so stakeholders could see exactly what changed and why scores moved.

Strategic relationships ICF

Building executive relationships that elevated UX as a strategic priority

As the first UX practitioner in the division, I built a network of 111 cross-functional relationships from scratch, including ongoing connections with the President of ICF and senior leadership, establishing UX as a trusted, strategic voice across the organization.

The challenge

I joined as the division's first UX practitioner with no mandate or network, so I had to build credibility and influence from scratch, with teams that had never worked with a designer before.

The approach

I built relationships intentionally at every level, from functional experts to the President, prioritizing depth over breadth. I turned 13% of those connections into ongoing, recurring relationships grounded in trust, context, and continuity.

Resource optimization ICF

Achieving full brand alignment in 6 months without adding headcount or budget

I delivered on a core leadership directive by bringing EnergyInsite in line with ICF's corporate brand, building a design system and cross-team partnership that required no additional spend.

The challenge

Leadership wanted EnergyInsite to meet ICF's corporate brand standards, but I had no UI designer, no creative director, and no budget to bring one on.

The approach

I built a working partnership with ICF's Creative Director and established a reusable design system grounded in corporate brand guidelines. A weekly 30-minute review cadence kept new designs aligned, and it continues today.

Operational efficiency ICF

Closing resource gaps with qualified talent in under 21 days

I built a standardized task order process from scratch that gave the team on-demand access to qualified UX resources, consistently staffed and working in under three weeks.

Engagements scaled
The challenge

As the sole dedicated UX resource, I had no reliable way to scope and bring in outside talent when there was more work than I could handle alone, which slowed things down and made resourcing unpredictable.

The approach

I designed a repeatable task order template that clearly defined scope, skills, deliverables, and approval steps. The standardized process gave stakeholders confidence and gave new resources everything they needed to hit the ground running.

Data-driven engagement WxH

Building an engaged audience with open rates 3x the industry benchmark

The challenge

My startup needed to build brand awareness and keep potential customers engaged, but I had no data on reader interests to guide content, and sustaining engagement over time needed a more deliberate approach.

The approach

I set up a reader survey feedback loop to gather engagement data directly from subscribers, then used what I learned to iterate on format, prioritizing short, relevant, scannable content that readers consistently responded to.

Expanding specialized offerings that grew contract value and won new business

The challenge

Concentric Sky built great products, but we were missing two things clients increasingly wanted: accessible design and UX content strategy. Without them, we were leaving contract value on the table.

The approach

I identified both gaps independently, drafted job descriptions and scoped billable services for each role, then built the case to leadership over several months. Both specialists elevated product and proposal quality, giving the organization capabilities it actively marketed to win larger engagements.

Delivery acceleration Concentric Sky

Restoring delivery momentum through strategic feature prioritization

I was brought in to give a stalled product team the clarity and direction they needed. I assessed competing feature requests, identified critical dependencies, and delivered a prioritized roadmap that got the team moving again.

The challenge

A product team had stalled right before a key milestone, buried in competing feature requests and stuck on unresolved technical dependencies. They needed fresh eyes and a clear path forward.

The approach

I assessed the full feature backlog to map dependencies and identify high-impact, low-risk work the team could move on immediately. I delivered a prioritized roadmap within two weeks that the client signed off on, giving the team shared direction and renewed momentum.

Recognition & impact

Making an impact matters to me, and it means a lot that my work has been recognized for making a difference.
